A/W 26: Black Tie

Introducing our take on black tie: a traditional dinner suit with a softer, more relaxed make that characterises our tailoring.

We’ve kept the essential elements of black tie, bringing a lighter touch to the construction for a dinner suit that feels comfortable and easy to wear, while retaining the elegance the occasion calls for.

To put this approach to the test, we brought the tuxedos into a relaxed restaurant setting, over a few cocktails and a leisurely dinner. After all, the true test of a dinner suit is how it feels when it’s actually being worn, not just for the most formal occasions, but at the table, over a drink and among friends.

Our dinner jacket is made from 340g Barathea wool from Alfred Brown, a mid weight cloth suitable for year-round wear and lighter than the heavier fabrics traditionally used for dinner suits. It follows our customary soft make, with unpadded natural shoulders, a half lining for comfort and breathability, and double vents for ease of movement.

The lapel facing and trouser braid are made from 100% Italian silk grosgrain, chosen for its subtle matte finish over the high shine satin often used in evening wear. A sharp, generous peak lapel, shaped to sit neatly under the shoulder, leads to a relatively low single button closure, with jetted pockets and black horn buttons adding to the clean, understated finish.

The trousers follow our familiar approach to tailoring, with a single pleat and high-waisted fit designed to create an elegant drape. Finished with dark gunmetal side adjusters, the waist is kept clean while adding a subtle detail.

To finish, the accompanying shirt is made in Italy using breathable cotton poplin, with a gentle cutaway collar designed to frame a bow tie, a covered placket for a clean front, and French cuffs for the adornment of cuff links.

Taken together, the collection offers our interpretation of black tie: softer in construction and more relaxed in feel, while staying true to the proportions and details that define the dress code. A little more ease, with all the sense of occasion.
