S/S Tailoring Fabric Guide

As warmer days settle in, we naturally move away from flannel, tweed, and heavier wools towards lighter, more breathable, and supple options.

To guide you through this seasonal transition, we have compiled some key details about our favourite summer tailoring fabrics within the current S/S 26 offering. From crisp linens to breezy tropical wools and seersuckers, each cloth offers its own character, texture, and level of breathability, allowing the wearer to choose what best fits their style and the garment's intended use.

Understanding the differences between these summer cloths is key in building a wardrobe that stays refined and comfortable throughout the warmer weather season.

TROPICAL WOOL

A favourite among both the Natalino team and our customers, tropical wool is one of the most versatile fabrics for summer tailoring.

Woven using tightly twisted long-staple fibres in an open plain weave, offering a crease resistant, crisp, and dry hand-feel that allows for better airflow while maintaining the elegant drape and structure of a classic worsted wool.

Highly breathable and lightweight, it is ideal for warm days, offering comfort without compromising on style.

Its exceptional versatility makes it a perfect choice across business, travel, weddings, and formal events.

IRISH LINEN

Irish linen is a timeless summer fabric known for its exceptional breathability, lightness, and natural creasing.

Its hollow flax fibre structure promotes excellent airflow and moisture-wicking properties, helping to keep the body cool while offering a relaxed yet elegant appearance.

Appreciated for its distinctive texture and louche drape, Irish linen develops a unique patina over time and carries an authentic, more rustic character that makes it well suited for less formal settings.

Relatively weighty compared to others, Irish linen holds its shape well, making it a particularly suitable choice for trousers.

ITALIAN LINEN

Italian linen tends to be lighter in weight and softer to the touch and the cocoa variant we have sourced for S/S 26 is no exception.

With a fine and smooth appearance, the cloth offers a more elegant and comfortable feel that lends itself well to more formal settings.

Given its lightness, wrinkling tends to be generous yet subtler than the sharper creases seen in the Irish version, reflecting the more laid-back, sophisticated aesthetic of Italian tailoring.

HIGH TWIST LINEN

High twist linen combines the breathability and natural character of linen with the durability and resilience created by tightly twisted yarns. This construction results in a drier handle, improved crease resistance, and a cleaner drape compared to traditional linens.

Lightweight and airy, high twist linen is another excellent summer tailoring option that feels relaxed yet offers a sharp, more precise appearance.

Compared to our other linen offerings for S/S 26, this high-twist linen is much lighter in weight, making it especially well-suited for wearing on extremely warm days.

SEERSUCKER

Seersucker is a classic summer cloth recognised for its distinctive puckered texture, created through a unique weaving process that alternates smooth and bunched yarns. This construction lifts the fabric slightly away from the skin, allowing for greater airflow and ventilation, making it exceptionally light and comfortable in warmer temperatures.

While more commonly seen using cotton, we have opted for a 100% wool composition for superior drape, breathability and comfort.

Relaxed and crease resistant, seersucker wool offers a unique character and easy summer elegance, with the subtle texture revealing itself only upon closer inspection.

HOPSACK

Hopsack is an open, breathable type of weave that allows greater airflow, particularly when using tightly twisted, lightweight yarns.

The subtle texture, which is more obvious in the slightly heavier mock leno variant, offers visual interest and contrast that makes it ideal for wearing as a separate sport jacket.

Both of our hopsack options utilise wools that provide excellent crease-resistance and generous body for clean, elegant draping making for garments that are particularly well-suited for travel.

For hotter climates, opt for our lightweight version.
